"I've been in education for 20 years, and there's a disturbing trend afoot in kindergartens around the US"

This article was sent to me by another teacher, and - sadly - I can relate all to well with it. At the school district where I taught, nap time was removed, PE time and recess was cut, centers/stations were frowned up, and the entire school day was increased by 30 minutes to "allow for more education time". And this included Pre-Kindergarten. We teachers were constantly having to assess and test our children, leaving less and less time for actual learning and discovery.

Would you hold it?

Next Time You Take Your Class to a Museum...

...take the time to sit, and observe, and ask questions. Try not to rush. True appreciation is learned, not instructed.

5 Minute Science Lesson - Wind Turbines

1. Do you know what these are?
2. What do they look like?
3. What do you think they're doing?

4. These are wind turbines. By using the wind, they generate electricity. Where do you think these might be located?
5. See that little strip of bare land running in front of all of them? That's a road. See the little black box at the foot of each turbine? That's a generating station that people go into. So how big do you think these turbines are?

(Psst! See the car parked in front of the 8th one down?)

What is it doing?
Why do you think it's doing that?
What does it look like after it goes into "hiding"?
