5 Minute Science Lesson - ripening

What is this?
What is happening?
Did you notice the seeds turn red before the rest of the fruit?
Can you eat it when it's green? Why or why not?

(You might also want to note that the fruit ripens as it grows. It doesn't grow to size and then ripen.)

The Military Grade Sleep System

You can read more about it here.

(A friend of mine found this at Target. It's for children who are afraid of monsters in their bedrooms, or may otherwise have trouble sleeping by themselves. According to my friend, her child feels safer and more comfortable. I checked the Target website but couldn't find it. However, your local store may carry it.)

Write a Hamburger Sentence!

Use the graphic below to write a hamburger sentence. Or, if you wish to get creative, cut out circles from different colored paper (ex: brown for meat, red for tomatoes, green for lettuce) and have the students write one word per "slice" to build it.

To expand it further, or to make it more challenging, you can add a "yellow for cheese" and a "white for mayo" to make the sentence building harder.
